He paid child support to his runaway daughter instead of the court clerk. He is in technical violation of the court payment order.

Now the consulate took away his passport. He is stuck in China and he could be arrested anytime. He has no money and his Chinese visa just expired. He has no real job because in part he is out of visa status. Chinese jail is a bowl of rice a day with dozens of prisoners in a lockup.
